"Fairy Tale Suit Helps Kids Learn About Law - Pinocchio-based story will be fun learning experience."
There's a fairy with a magic wand, a cricket with green antennae and of course, a puppet come to life, all testifying in the case of the State of Italia vs. Jepetto the Woodcarver, A "Pinocchio"-based play written to teach students the basics of law.
Sponsored by the Noblesville Cultural Arts Commission, the
dramatization, whose content changes each year, is held close to the
American Bar Associations' annual Law Day, observed May 1.
The audience, whether students or community members, serve as the jury
in this case, deciding on a verdict after carefully weighing the evidence presented. Before they come to the play, students spend time in class learning about law terms and the trial experience.
In The State of Italia vs. Jepetto the Woodcarver, they will apply what they've learned to decide if Pinocchio hould be allowed to live with Jepetto, or if he
should become a ward of the state.
